As part of my work, one important part is sharing the research with other people at conferences. The field I work in is very international, which means that the conferences are usually somewhere nice. Over the last few years I have travelled to the US, Canada, Australia, Barcelona, Paris and all over the UK for conferences.

I also work with people in other countries, which means I have to travel to visit them sometimes.

I’ve been to the US, Canada, the Netherlands, Portugal, Japan, China and Cameroon as part of my job. I probably go away about once a year for conferences or to visit people I work with.

In my previous job, as a mathematical consultant, I got to travel a lot to customer sites. I got to go to US, China, India, Czech Republic, Spain, Germany, Greece and Austria, as well a fair bit in the UK.

I did try to limit my travel, but as covered EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) other members of my team would regularly travel to Denmark, Norway, France, Italy, Saudia Arabia, Russia, South Africa, Jordan, Israel, Cyprus, Saudia Arabia, Kazakhstan and Georgia, amongst others. If I’d wanted, I could easily have been abroad meeting and working with customers multiple times a year.

There are plenty of jobs that use maths and involve a lot of travel, if that’s what appeals to you.

Yes, I do. Most of the time I am with my computer, but from time to time I have to present my work to other people from all parts of the world, and we are all meeting at conferences. These conferences are taking place in different parts of the world.
I’ve travelled a *lot* in Europe (Italy, Iceland, France, Latvia, Finland, Greece, Norway, Slovenia, Spain, Portugal, to name just a few…), and outside of Europe I travelled to Japan, Qatar and USA.
