I do, but I don’t use it. I prefer the fingerprint scanner on my phone. It’s easier to use because I can unlock the phone as I’m taking it out of my pocket.

Facial recognition is pretty cool as a problem and there is some fun stuff to look at in computer vision.

My actual opinion of facial recognition depends on how it is being used. If it’s a nifty feature to unlock your phone, then cool beans! But there’s also the darker side where it has been used invasively to track people which I disagree with. So my opinion really depends on the situation.

No I don’t have a face recognition system enabled on my phone. I might sound a bit outdated but I would rather prefer to leave this technology to the police, if it requires internet access to work (as it is likely to be).

Reason being, I prefer not to give my biometric data to anybody unless the police as it is too much valuable data to give away for free or in exchange of an app or a service because it never changes (or changes very little).

I prefer to give away data that do changes over time (like my favourite meals for example) so I have the freedom of deciding whether to update my data regularly or not. If I don’t update my data I am terminating the subscription with the app that uses it as the app’s developer needs to work with up to date information.

In this century data is a form of payment. Many developers use data to optimise or develop new apps without asking you a penny for it. If you like the app then it is fair to contribute to its development, but you should always have the option of opting out from it.

I don’t have facial recognition on my phone. For me it doesn’t add anything over a password or a pattern to unlock my phone. So why would I want it?

I also adhere to ‘if the product is free, you’re product’. If you’re being given facial recognition for free on your phone, what is the phone manufacturer getting from you for free?

      No, I don’t, because I don’t need it.
However, I don’t think unlocking a phone with it is bad.
I also find face recognition on automated board control systems cool.

Nevertheless, I can imagine facial recognition being used in some bad ways. For example, trying to identify criminals.
