Good question! In most situations I rely on code written by others to protect my privacy by using apps like Signal. I do use my knowledge (if not really my skill) in that I’m picky about which messaging app I would use for more sensitive messages – I wouldn’t use Facebook or WhatsApp for sensitive information for example, and if I’m sending solutions to an exam via email I’ll always encrypt it.
