Lots of different bits of maths are hard in their own way, and people find different areas easier or harder according to how their unique brains work! So for me, I found the really abstract stuff you learn at university hard (e.g. knots in 10 dimensions, what the meaning of a number is etc) whereas the applied side came much more naturally to me. But some people are the other way around!

For me, algebraic structures are rather hard stuff (fields, groups, rings, etc.)

I think each part of maths has it’s own challenges. Personally I find ‘pure’ maths quite hard as I don’t quite understand it and it can be very abstract.
