      My job involves a few different things, I read a lot of biological/mathematical papers for inspiration, develop models using equations, write and develop code to simulated different biological problems, write up my results into research papers and a little bit of teaching students.

      I do a mix of research, teaching and admin jobs. In the research, I’m using computer code to try to find things out using data. I also supervise other researchers who are working on their own problems. I also do teaching during term-time, and then I have to attend quite a few meetings.

      A mix of things. Reading what other people already have done so I can think about something new. Thinking how to do this new thing (which maths do I need, how to put it in a computer programme). When this is ready, then do experiments (in my case, an experiment is running computer programmes on texts and see what numbers are coming out). Then, I have to understand what all those numbers actually mean. Once I do, I write about all together (maths, experiments, numbers and their meaning), and finally I have to present it to other people doing similar things — then I travel to different places to meet those people (these meetings are called conferences).

      I also teach undergraduate students about machine learning, and help post-graduate students with their PhD.
